On December 5, Fujian Yida Food Co., Ltd. and the Fujian Provincial Fishery Mutual Insurance Association successfully signed Fujian’s first kelp carbon sink index insurance policy in Xiaocheng Town, Lianjiang County, providing dedicated risk coverage for the kelp carbon sink area of 2,248 mu in the waters off Xiaocheng Town.

This insurance innovatively includes the loss of kelp carbon sink value within its coverage. Through a “carbon sink quantification + insurance backstop” model and an “index-based damage assessment and rapid claim settlement” mechanism, it establishes a robust risk defense for the sustainable development of kelp aquaculture and the blue carbon industry.
As a provincial-level key leading enterprise integrating kelp cultivation, sophisticated processing, and sales & trade, Yida Food has always adhered to the philosophy of “With a Million Hearts Towards the Sea—Building People and Achieving Success.” We have deeply cultivated the entire kelp industry chain and have been at the forefront of exploring the blue carbon industry, achieving remarkable results. In 2022, we completed China’s first-ever marine fishery carbon sink transaction; in 2023, we secured the nation’s first blue carbon certificate. We continue to contribute our ocean-based strength toward the global goal of carbon neutrality.

While deeply cultivating the industry, Yida Food has always remained true to its original aspiration of rural revitalization and its corporate responsibility. Xiaocheng Town, which serves as the company’s designated aquaculture area, boasts a pristine, high-quality marine area at the mouth of the Min River. With clean, pollution-free water and abundant sunlight and rainfall, this region’s得天独厚 natural endowment provides an ideal environment for kelp growth and lays an ecological foundation for nurturing carbon sink resources. Leveraging these natural advantages, the company has innovatively established an integrated cooperation model of “enterprise + farmer + base,” simultaneously building a comprehensive product traceability and assurance system that spans from the Aquaculture area in Xiaocheng Town all the way to the consumer’s dining table. The initiative led by the company to promote the implementation of kelp carbon sink index insurance is a significant practice that deepens this cooperative model and safeguards the long-term interests of farmers.
In the future, Yida Food will continue to strengthen its cooperative ties with farmers, actively explore new pathways for realizing the value of blue carbon, and work together with all parties to promote the green and high-quality development of Fujian’s marine economy.
